For now just have the adults with little communication watch us! We didnt know that we could do this either! Mom asks us to help the others like us but she has the difficult part of getting the parents and teachers to try! Great things come to those who are willing to learn and communication can start immediately with simple yes no questions! Our voices dont match our thoughts and yes does not always mean yes! I didnt want to lose my animated veggie tales blues clues language at first so adriana had to convince me to type my thoughts! This has been amazing to get exactly what i want to eat lol! No more plain hamburgers! I love pickles! Boy mom is loving this as she doesnt have to guess now! We are so happy to be able to communicate and help others! Please share this with your friends like us with limited speech as they are very intelligent and can read! I cant explain why we have all these abilities but we just do! Noah Smith typing to communicate since 2016
If you know someone with autism who can’t have a normal conversation, maybe just repeats phrases or answers simple questions as an adult, please share my info! Www.sharonsweb.com look at events page. We are always trying to meet with people as “facilitated communication” needs to be experienced to be understood. This has been absolutely life-changing for us with Noah and Adriana being able to communicate as adults. They need touch to override their autistic bodies. It will look different on each individual. Ideally support will fade and they will become independent. I am a trained facilitator and have typed with several people besides just Noah and Adriana. It doesn’t cost anything to meet with me! I can meet people outside of chipotle in Broad Ripple on Tuesday (see fundraiser event) or come to our home in fishers. When Adriana typed something very British with a facilitator just over two years ago, I knew I had to do everything in my power to be able to do this. How could any parent not try everything?!?! It’s an odd process and it was so frustrating to watch facilitators be able to communicate with Noah and Adriana but it took me a couple of months of training trying to connect. The hardest part was getting out of my head and trying not to anticipate as I had always done! Now we are ready to help others, fighting the skeptics along the way. We never dreamed what would work for our children is something that has to be proven! Yes it is called facilitated communication or FC. We have also met new friends that do rapid prompting method RPM. Both are real and work for our specific niche of people with autism despite what the skeptics argue. Really who are you going to listen to, someone that does not have any children using the methods or me who shows you every video and invites you to my home!?!?Quinn has aspergers syndrome and is the hardest of the bunch. He is actually a caregiver to a teenager with autism! With having three children on the autism spectrum I knew I had a purpose. I raise funds on eBay for Charity, marketing on social media other sellers who donate as little as 10%. I began sponsoring local events including Fuse and Special Olympics to get the word out locally about our ebay. These donated funds can help families get the training they need. I recently had a request to help a family provide a month of supplements for their child, I did fulfill this as well as I purchased supplements from eBay sellers to keep in my wheelhouse of support. It is heartbreaking when I hear of families who either don’t believe their child is communicating with a therapist (Wish I could reach that Typer!) or they think behavior is just behavior and not the child or adult wanting to communicate. Nearly all “behaviors” went away once communication started with Noah and Adriana. They do still have autism and they can’t always control their voices or their bodies but now they can tell us what’s going on! Now how to get this in simple terms to reach those left behind, that is the question! The image on the event flyer (see conference on events page) is of a little girl which is not really who I am trying to reach as I want to reach those like noah and Adriana who are teenagers or adults and have been able to get by with echolalia (repeating phrases) or less! We knew there was more in there but did not realize how much they paid attention during our world travels and trying everything possible to reach past their autism! Friends who have known the kids since they were little see the huge strides they have made. But often it’s people I’ve never met on the Internet who keep up with my posts and support our eBay for charity. I need your help finding people we could help! At the conference the people with autism spectrum attend for free! Free yes free! It’s because the parents or caregivers are the ones who need the training. The people with autism are to be presumed competent! #presumecompetence #rethinkautism It is never too late!
My name is Adriana , i type to communicate my wandering thoughts. Organizing much of my running thoughts is hard for me to do. Yes i understand what is being said and going on in the working world. I have autism too but that doesn't mean i am not Intelligent. Trying to get all my thoughts out is really tough for me. Normally i think about many things at the same time. Knowing that people see my autism first is frustrating just because i have to please people before they get to know me. By the time i type out what i want to say, often its too late! I want to use my voice. Yes i need to work on this yes i want to really find my voice.
